Sustainability

Sustainability at Hotel Mignon

What we do in practice

As a family-run hotel, we take a long-term view and are mindful of how we use the resources available to us. Many of the decisions that shape our day-to-day hotel operations naturally arise from our immediate surroundings: our garden, our collaboration with producers from the region, and the personal commitment of our family and our team.

We have implemented specific measures in various areas of our hotel operations – from energy and water to purchasing, packaging, our kitchen, mobility and our approach to our team.

From our garden

In the spacious garden area, which is also home to our dedicated dog area, our bee colonies have found their place. Herbs for our kitchen and flowers used to decorate our guest rooms also grow here.

The honey produced by our bees is served directly at the hotel.

Energy at Hotel Mignon

Hotel Mignon has its own photovoltaic system, which generates electricity for our hotel operations.

There is also a solar system on the roof of our Bonsai Lounge, which provides heat for our swimming pool.

In addition, we purchase electricity from Alperia, a South Tyrolean energy provider.

Fewer single-use items in our day-to-day hotel operations

We do not offer drinks in plastic bottles at the hotel. At breakfast, we also avoid single-serve portions in plastic packaging.

In the bathrooms, shampoo and shower gel are provided in refillable dispensers.

Our waste is sorted according to the designated recycling categories and disposed of accordingly.

Bath slippers on request

Rather than automatically providing bath slippers in every room, we are happy to make them available to our guests on request at reception. Of course, we are also pleased if you bring your own slippers.

Our approach to water

Wherever possible, we use water from the traditional local irrigation channels, known as Waale, rather than drinking water to irrigate our 10,000 m² hotel grounds.

In various areas of the hotel, we also use taps designed to limit water flow.

Our kitchen: origin and planning

The origin of our ingredients plays an important role in our kitchen. We source a range of food products from producers in South Tyrol and the surrounding area. These include organic eggs, dairy products and bread. Herbs from our own garden also find their way into our kitchen.

Alongside origin, we also focus on planning according to actual requirements: we ask our guests to make their dinner selection in the morning. This allows our kitchen team to plan and prepare the required quantities more precisely.

Working with selected farmers and producers brings a taste of South Tyrol to the table and gives our guests the opportunity to discover the culinary diversity of our region.

In-house laundry

A large proportion of our hotel linen is washed directly at Hotel Mignon in our in-house laundry. This allows us to manage the process ourselves and avoids the need to transport this linen to an external laundry service.

Getting around Merano and the surrounding area

Both e-bikes and free city bikes are available for our guests to hire. Guests arriving by bus or train receive their first day of e-bike hire free of charge.

With the Alto Adige Guest Pass, our guests can also use public transport in South Tyrol during their stay.

Our team

For us, responsibility also means looking after the people who are there for our guests every day.

Through our health fund, our team members receive discounts on certain medical services and on the purchase of prescription glasses. In addition, we offer opportunities for professional and personal development.
